I had great hopes for republican government in the year 1992. Then, likewise, in 1996. In 2000 I expected some real republican government. I expected that the Republicans would make a great effort to turn the Ship of State around, or at least turn it rightward a bit. If the Republicans could not actually reduce spending, then, at least they could reduce the rate of growth of the federal government's budget.
But we got an explosion of spending. We got Democrat government. Many of us out here in freedom land feel betrayed by the people who were supposed to represent us. But they represented themselves rather than the taxpayers.
Such profligacy in spending is like a dagger in the heart of the conservative citizens of the Republic. It is not a fatal wound. But it can help Republicans lose elections. Is there still left a "conservative movement?"
