O'Reilly Wants Us to Take on "Big Oil."

I watch the O'Reilly Factor all the time. I am an O'Reilly fan.  But this article shows me that Bill does not have a handle on basic economics.

A basic rule of economics is that "Everyone acts in his own best self-interest, as he understands what his self-interests are."

It is my car, my gasoline, and my trips, and my decision every step of the way, every day. I will cut down on my trips, my miles driven, and my use of my car when it serves my own insterests.  I would buy some gasoline at $10.00 per gallon.  No man, no group, and no group can for very long overide the Law of Supply and Demand.

There are reasons why gasoline is not $1.00 per gallon.  There are reasons why gasoline is not $100.00 per gallon.  Everything regarding gasoline prices is related to supply and demand in the market place.  I should never complain about the price of gasoline as long as I am buying it.  When it becomes in my best self-interest to stop buying gasoline, I will stop buying it.  So, let us not continue to talk silliness about the price of gasoline. I need gasoline, and will continue to buy some of it, until I don't need any more of it.

Spending Exlposion

I had great hopes for republican government in the year 1992.  Then, likewise, in 1996.  In 2000 I expected some real republican government.   I expected that the Republicans would make a great effort to turn the Ship of State around, or at least turn it rightward a bit.  If the Republicans could not actually reduce spending, then, at least they could reduce the rate of growth of the federal government's budget.

But we got an explosion of spending.  We got Democrat government.  Many of us out here in freedom land feel betrayed by the people who were supposed to represent us.  But they represented themselves rather than the taxpayers.

Such profligacy in spending is like a dagger in the heart of the conservative citizens of the Republic.  It is not a fatal wound. But it can help Republicans lose elections.  Is there still left a "conservative movement?"

No One Stands Out

This is one of the few times since 1959 that I did not really know which Republican I would vote for in the next presidential election.  Is anyone else feeling the same way?

Here are some thoughts about some of the folks in the stalls at this time.  Note that I am still a citizen who likes less and less-intrusive government agents and programs, which means less taxation, and taxation at a lower percentage of my income.  And I still like to be able to tell a Republican from a Democrat, once they get into office.  This has been difficult, lately.

Newt: I would vote for him in a minute, while wondering if he still has as many people against him as he had in 1994.

Rudy: He has great leadership qualities, but I am not exactly sure where he may be wanting to lead me.

Mitt: The most handsome candidate may not be the most conservative, or the best leader.  I understand that Mr. Romney has done some really good things in MASS, and his leadership qualities are strong.  And, it is OK to be that handsome.

McCain: Five and one-half years as a prisoner-of-war does not prepare a person for four years in "the pot-shot box," the white house.  McCain is not on my list already.  He has never been on it.

Ronald Reagan: He has been dead for a number of years, but I am not sure if he is not still the best Republican candidate.  Why not?  Dead Democrats have been voting in Chicago, and now, in Seattle, to elect leaders. I think dead Republicans elected Missy Gregoriette, as Washington's governor.  Many Republicans of today act dead from the neck up.

I feel like a brand new Republican all over again. I though I got over this back in 1959.  I am now looking closely at Mitt and Rudy.  May 17, 2007.
